Tradition, Technology, and the Future of Custom High Heel Manufacturing: An Interview with Rodolfo Pisoni
One of the founders of Italcompo discusses the evolution of the luxury footwear industry and the future challenges in high fashion heel production.
In the world of custom high heel manufacturers, staying competitive means mastering the balance between tradition and innovation, entrepreneurial vision and technical expertise.
Italcompo perfectly embodies this approach: a company born from a family intuition that has grown to become a trusted partner for some of the most prestigious international fashion brands.
We sat down with one of its founders, Rodolfo Pisoni, to talk about how the industry has changed, the strategic decisions that shaped their growth, and what goals are driving their vision for the future.
How has high fashion heel production changed over the past 20 years?
Everything moves faster now. Deadlines are tighter, and the skillsets required are increasingly complex. That’s why we’ve invested in advanced technology—while staying true to our family tradition and the know-how we’ve carried with us from the very beginning.
How has Italcompo adapted to technological change?
We believed in technology from the start. Our first CAD system dates back to 2000, as does our first CNC machine. Since then, we’ve continued to evolve, attending major international trade fairs in the plastics industry, where we often find inspiration for new applications in fashion.
Where do you focus your investments?
Primarily in tooling and molding departments. Innovation coming from sectors like automotive has allowed us to implement automation and cutting-edge machinery that now give us a competitive edge in custom high heel production for the luxury market.
What truly defines a reliable supplier in the luxury footwear industry?
Time, first and foremost. Last-minute changes from clients are common and can jeopardize the entire production cycle. And of course, quality. Having full control of the process—from prototyping and mold creation to injection molding—enables us to be fast without ever compromising on product excellence.
What does the future hold for Italcompo in the next 10 years?
Our goal is to grow, without losing our identity. Italcompo will undoubtedly evolve over the next decade, but we want it to continue reflecting the values it was founded on. Every year, we reinvest a significant part of our revenue into new technologies, ideas, and process improvements.
When we started this business nearly 30 years ago in our parents’ basement, we had big ideas. Today, many of those ideas are reality—and we’re confident the future will bring new achievements, fueled by continuous dialogue with our clients.
