Materials Matter: How We Choose the Right Ones for Customized Luxury High Heels
From moplen to wood, all the way to recycled and hybrid materials — our expertise in selecting the right materials for customized high heels, balancing performance, aesthetics, and sustainability.
In the world of customized high heels for luxury footwear, material selection is far from a secondary concern — it’s a key step that directly impacts the final product’s aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability.
Our company, with years of experience in high-end footwear, has developed deep know-how in identifying and working with the most suitable materials, based on the design, client requirements, and evolving market trends.
Materials and geometry: it all starts with design
During the prototyping phase, we use different materials depending on the heel’s geometry. For simpler designs, we use machining centers to mill the heel, opting for wood when the heel is bulkier, or moplen for thinner heels that require greater impact resistance and better nail-holding capacity.
When the shape is more complex, we create an initial prototype using 3D printing, allowing the client to evaluate the form before deciding whether to proceed with mold production.
Performance and aesthetics: every material has its role
From our experience, every material used in the production of customized high heels has its own distinct features. Wood is valued for its lightness, especially in larger or more sculptural heels. Moplen is preferred for thinner or more delicate heels, offering excellent mechanical resistance and a smooth surface that’s ideal for lacquered finishes.
Meanwhile, 3D-printed prototypes are a valuable tool during early development, where speed and visual accuracy are essential for client presentations.
Sustainability at the core of heel production
The drive to use more sustainable materials often comes directly from fashion houses, which are increasingly sensitive to issues of brand reputation and compliance with environmental regulations. To meet these expectations, we’re actively adopting alternative materials such as partially recycled polymers designed to maintain strong mechanical performance and biobased compounds. We are also evaluating hybrid materials, developed in collaboration with suppliers, containing leather and hide scraps from other production processes.
These choices allow us to lower environmental impact while still meeting the high standards of the luxury market.
Strategic partnerships for material innovation
Innovation doesn’t happen in isolation. Our partnerships with specialized suppliers — and in some cases directly with fashion brands — have led to the development of alternative materials aligned with creative and environmental goals.
These collaborations have generated high-value projects, combining cutting-edge aesthetics with a strong commitment to sustainability.
The challenges of sustainable materials? Experience makes the difference
Sustainable materials, especially those with high recycled content, can be more difficult to work with due to inconsistencies in their physical and mechanical properties. To overcome this, we’ve established technical limits on usage percentages and adjusted our molds to ensure the materials perform reliably during production and over time.
In this area too, our goal remains clear: to find the right balance between innovation, sustainability, and performance.
A trusted partner in material selection
In our company, every heel begins with a tailored evaluation where material is not just a functional element — it’s a core part of the product’s value.
Our deep expertise in the production of customized high heels allows us to approach every project with a combination of technical insight and creative vision, always evolving through research, technology, and collaboration with the industry’s top partners.
